Many gamers are surely excited for the release of God of War: Ascension tomorrow, but many reviews released in the last week has given rise to a controversy surrounding the name of a trophy that players can unlock, which has offended some reviewers and early players of the game.

Many reviewers noted the trophy, entitled “Bros before Hos”, allegedly follows an extremely violent scene directed towards one of the game’s female protagonists, giving it an unfortunate, possibly unintentional misogynistic message within the context provided by the scene. However, Santa Monica studios has stated that a day-one patch will change the name of the trophy to “Bros before Foes”.

“We have created and will soon push out a patch for God of War: Ascension that alters the title of one of the game Trophies,” said Santa Monica Studios. “The text was offensive to some members of our community and impacted their enjoyment of the game. We are endlessly committed to ensuring that our community can fully enjoy the experiences the team has created. As such, we’ve addressed the feedback and amended the Trophy in question.”

Gosh, we’re four years old today. How time has slipped by.

As the passion within grew, so did eGamer. Things have changed tremendously, and we’re bigger and better than ever. Our team has grown, and so has our community. We’re going to continue working at this.

Today not only marks our birthday, but probably one of our most exciting changes too: we’re aiming to be different. A lot different.

We’ve rebranded to be something a little different to one’s average videogame website. We’ve decided that we’d like to be “The Gamer’s Voice”, which is essentially us as gamers, and you as a gamer, too. The idea behind this is to not only promote better discussion through articles, instead we’d also like you to actually want to talk about more in the comments section. This is an opportunity to share your view to others who actually want to hear your side of the story. We’re not going to let your words slide by, instead, we’ll sit and chat. We promise.

Now, we don’t only want you to comment. No. We also want you to submit your articles to the site, where we will have competitions and opportunities for community members to have their share and be rewarded. Being a gamer is tough, we want to make it worth your while, every second of every day. More on this later, though.

Our revised schedule offers us the opportunity to split news and media (videos and galleries) with opinions and factually based articles on the industry. It allows us to share a different sort of message, where we’re no longer the ‘one and only’ but something that complements your other favourite gaming offerings.

Then, if that isn’t enough, we’ll be adding technology, eSports and more to the site. We’re definitely going to talk, so will you join, or at least listen? Remember, we’re talking to you, not at you.

To everyone out there who visited us, for a minute or a year, we thank you for your support. We love you. Unconditionally.

In December I let slip that we’re aiming to change things up, this year. And after much talk and decision making, we’ve come to a conclusion on how we’re going to move forward. From Monday, the 4th of February.

We also announced that we are looking to hire new staff, where we are currently finalising who joins us. The new staff will allow for a lot of new sections on the site, offering a little more to current readers and hopefully enticing new readers to visit.

Following that, and probably our biggest and most exciting change, we are going to revamp our current article system, as well as what we stand for. At the moment we’re not much different from the other local gaming sites, and we really want to be seen as different, in the mind.

While we won’t change our layout or look, we will change how we do things and when we do things. Our current scheduling system has articles publishing every 45 minutes from 8am. The new system will have articles on the hour, with designated news slots. Between 8am and 9am will be a ‘News Hour’, where between 9am and 10am will allow us to publish trailers and various galleries. Then, later in the afternoon at 2pm and 3pm, ‘News Hour’ and the media slots will reoccur, with fresh articles.

All slots between that, on the hour, will be used by the eGamer team to talk about gaming. We’re aiming to focus more on what’s happening, but also diversify. Don’t be shocked when you see an article at 4pm commenting on a news article which was published at 2pm. We want to talk more about what’s happening. The aim is to talk to you more, and tell you less. Conversation is king.

Finally, we’re changing from mere gaming news and reviews, to ‘The Gamer’s Voice’. We’re here to be a voice, where you’re more than welcome to have your say via submissions in Reader’s Digress and through the comments. We’re going to encourage that.

Monday has a lot of change. Embrace it.
