Now I’ve seen it all. A new trailer, actually the first official trailer, for The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct has been released, and it’s really for downloadable content. Of course trailers revealing DLC a while before the game launches is not new, and it’s become common these days.
But what makes this so hard to swallow and honestly laughable is that Terminal Reality and Activision’s The Walking Dead first person shooter looks seriously low-quality, and it already did back in the first gameplay footage revealed. Yet, the first official trailer here is about DLC, as if they’re already confident they have, or will get, your money. Seriously, go check out the videos of this game. It feels like you’re taking a trip back to 2005 or something. The nerve to then prioritise the advertising of DLC over the actual game then, hey? I really wonder what will be next. Actually I’d rather not know.
Oh yes, and as for what the DLC is about, it’s a pre-order incentive for select outlets entitled the ‘Walker Herd Survival Pack,’ and it includes the following, according to the press release:
“In this exclusive DLC pack you will have access to the all-new Herd Mode where you need to fight for survival against endless waves of walkers. The dead need no rest – will you?
“In addition, fight off walkers in the story mode with a new arsenal of melee weapons including a survival knife, sawtoothed machete, kukri, reinforced hatchet and advanced machete. With ammo scarce and the undead attracted to loud noises, a sharp, silent blade might just be your most trusted companion (note: a new game must be started to access the extra weapons).”
The game will be out on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. Although there’s confusion around that PC release date since the trailer doesn’t show anything about this version (it shows the other three platforms) at the end of it, yet various sources still list this game as coming to PC.
