Microsoft has revealed a proof of concept video for a Kinect projector system that is said to augment your living space. Shown at CES the Xbox system is called IllumiRoom and uses Kinect in unison with a projector to augment the space around your TV with projected visualisations.
According to Microsoft, IllumiRoom can “change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences.”
According to a patent for the technology filed by Microsoft last year, the technology will utilise a 3D depth camera to calculate a player’s position by emitting infrared light patterns. More information is said to be revealed at CHI 2013 in April.
The demo video above was, according to Microsoft, captured live and is not the product of any sot of of visual effects.
